What if it DOES Work?
What if this doesn’t work?
Have you ever had an idea that got you excited? Have you wanted to combine your passion with your talent and take it to the world in some way? Maybe you plan and research; maybe you talk to your friends; maybe you even come up with a really cool name. And then it happens. The question: What if it doesn’t work? Somehow we forget to ask, “What if it DOES work?”
And let’s be honest for a minute. What if it doesn’t work? So what? It’s not the end of the world. But our …
Procrastination or Productivity?
In your world, which one is likely to come in first place, procrastination or productivity?
For so many of us, procrastination wins nearly every time. Sure, there are times we can push through with effort and determination – and we even get that warm-fuzzy feeling of satisfaction. But we’re exhausted. We’ve used up our energy reserves. We want things to be easy.
Actually, we want things to be “easy and effortless.”
And yet, if things come too easily or too effortlessly, we don’t appreciate…
It's Time to Get Riled Up!
I’ve usually made the most progress in my life when I was riled up.
You see, it’s easy to make excuses and not take any action when things are okay. I’ll sign up for classes and don’t implement. After all, things are okay. I’ll read the books but not do the exercises. After all, things are okay. I’ve stayed in jobs and relationships because I told myself that things weren’t that bad.
Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
I don’t want a life that’s just okay. I don’t want a job or a relationship that’s good en…
You Might be Like Neil Armstrong (and don't even know it)
Beware of the Monsters
I love it when people share their stories. I love it when I can relate to people.
A couple of years ago, my coach at the time shared a very impactful story for me. It was impactful because I was reminded that often we (I?) tend to judge others by what they show on the ‘outside’ (financial success, self-confidence, a huge coaching business, expensive travel, Instagram followers, etc.) and we forget that we all have internal struggles.
So, even though this coach makes multi-millions of dollar…
What's Your 80/20 Rule?
Do you buy into the idea that doing less is being lazy?
It’s so easy to do. And recently I’ve been wondering if that’s one of the reasons I’m always busy. I don’t want to feel lazy and I don’t want to be judged as being lazy either (by myself or anyone else).
But here’s what happens when I’m busy ‘just to be busy.’ I often find that I’m out of balance. Or my self-care suffers. Or I don’t end up getting enough sleep. Or I’m not exactly enjoying life. Or I make excuses for why my priority proje…
It's Time for Some Shedding
Autumn is here!
For many people this is their favorite time of year. The warm days of summer begin to cool and the landscape turns gorgeous shades of orange and red. I didn't get much autumn color change in the 10 years I lived in Sedona, but here in the inland northwest, I'm treated to a symphony of color daily. And as I drive the familiar streets regularly, I take notice how the orange and red hues get deeper and darker each day.
For me, autumn brings other things to mind as well. As the se…
When Things Don't go According to Plan
I enjoy road trips.
There’s something magical about seeing the landscape close up as I whiz by on the highways. Some landscapes are desolate, dry, and lonely and others are lush, vibrant, and teeming with life. I’m intrigued by the small towns and often wonder what brought people to these remote and out-of-the-way places.
This is a great segue for me to compare these external landscapes to our internal landscapes, right? And how sometimes we feel desolate and lonely and other times we are vibr…
When Positive Thinking and Affirmations Don't Work
What if I said that thinking positive, reading books, and stating your affirmations are not going to create the transformation you desire?
Would that trigger you? Would you want to argue with me?
I don't know about you, but I have read all the books and took the classes. And it all seemed so easy. Make a vision board, think positively, and say my affirmations and miraculously my life would turn around overnight.
My life wasn’t bad, but I had a feeling of dissatisfaction. There was something t…
Between the Ending and Beginning is Magic
Good Enough, Competent, or Awesome?
If I said to you, “you didn’t come here to be good enough, or competent, or mediocre - - you came here to be AWESOME,” would you believe me?
Sometimes we get caught up with what other people think we should do or how other people think we should behave that we bury our own essence to play by someone else’s rules. This is a losing (not to mention soul-sucking) proposition for us.
There is something that lights you up. There is something that turns you on. There is something that is meant just f…
Like Driving Through Fog
Have you ever felt stuck?
Maybe you’ve read the books, poured over articles on the internet, or asked everyone you knew, “what’s next?” Maybe you know all about goal setting and affirmations, yet you find yourself repeating the same patterns or doubting you’ll ever reach your goals and dreams and doubting you'll ever live an aligned life. Does any of that sound familiar?
Most of us want to get from Point A to Point B in a nice straight line. Forget about ‘life being a journey’ – we want to g…
You Need to Get Off Your Duff!
Stop Resisting and Start Moving!
That’s what I’ve been telling myself for the past few months. Oh, I’m doing a lot of ‘moving’ and keeping busy. I’m busy creating 5-day mini courses (did I mention my new self-professed title is “Queen of the 5-Day Mini Course”?). I’m busy going to baseball games. I’m busy researching hikes to take on my upcoming vacation. I’m busy calling contractors for my home improvement projects.
But I’m not busy making any videos. I’m not busy stepping into my power as an…
You Get to Decide
Who doesn’t love to stay in their comfort zone?
Even when we want to experience more success or more love or more health or more joy, we also want to remain comfortable – and we don’t want to make the wrong choice.
Has this ever happened to you? You may have wanted another job, but you stayed comfortable and then got fired. You were ready to move out of a current relationship, but you stayed comfortable and then the other person left. Ouch. Blindsided.
We need to be w…
Picasso's Foundational Key to Success
Have you ever tricked yourself into thinking you were taking action when you weren’t?
Maybe you’re doing more research? Maybe you’re taking just one more course? Maybe you’re busy thinking about the right action to take? Maybe you’re staying open to listening to your inner wisdom so you’ll know what your next inspired step is?
I know I’ve fooled myself into thinking I was taking action when I was actually avoiding making a decision. Don’t get me wrong, I’m the first to say that ‘taking action’…
Bounce Back to a Better Normal
Can you feel it?
I can feel the excitement, anticipation, and expectation as we head into July 2021. After 15 months of social distancing, masking, and staying safe in our home cocoons, things are opening up.
I have friends who are flying to visit family and friends. My season tickets to my local minor league baseball team have been activated. I’m attending several concerts this summer. We are bouncing back and ready to resume and embrace life as it was prior to COVID-19.
And I also have some…
The Downside of Hiding Your Feelings
I used to be a master at hiding my feelings. How about you?
Of course I’m referring those feelings that society tells us are negative or bad: anger, resentment, jealousy, pride, shame, guilt, selfishness, and sadness.
I also hid any feelings that revealed my sensitive nature because I was taught that those feelings showed weakness and vulnerability.
The problem with hiding those feelings was that ALL of my feelings got diminished as well, even joy, exhilaration, excitement, appreciation, grat…
From Numbness to Awesomeness
When I am numb, it’s nearly impossible to be motivated or to succeed.
The trouble is that I was numb for most of my life. I was numb to my real feelings of anger, frustration, resentment, self-doubt, fear, shame, and guilt. I was told over and over again that those feelings were wrong and I needed to overcome them. But no one taught me how to overcome them. So I did what I knew how to do: I shoved them down, I buried them, and I pretended they didn’t exist. And I ate.
And yet, the few times…
2020, You Threw me a Curveball
And I have to admit, I didn’t always take this change in plans with a grin and a shoulder shrug (at least not at first). After all, I had big plans for the summer: season tickets to see 15 minor league baseball games, season tickets for the Coeur d’Alene Summer The…
